The IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR on his official visit to the Nigeria Police Academy Wudil-Kano on Thursday 4th May, 2023 commissions 10 projects in the Academy. Among the 10 projects is the newly completed Moot Court building at the Faculty of Law. The IGP while commissioning the projects charged the law cadets to be deliberate in developing refined advocacy skills necessary for insightful investigation and improved prosecution of criminal matters in court.
Other projects commissioned by the IGP were: the newly designed Academy gate, the newly constructed Tafa Balagun way, the re-constructed administrative block building, the ICT building, the CBN lecture Auditorium, the Digital Forensic Laboratory, the furnished indoor sports complex, the indoor shooting range, and the post graduate hostel.
The IGP while commissioning the projects reiterated his commitments to capacity building particularly of young officers undergoing training to instil in them the tenets of professionalism, sportsmanship and community oriented policing. He further says that the administration has made significant progress in making sure that welfare of cadets and the Academy entirely is taken care of to produce the best professional Police Officers.
At the dinner in honour of the IGPs visit, the IGP informed the gathering that his visit to the Academy was a good one because it gave him the opportunity to see the Academy very closely after a long time, it also gave him the opportunity to see the facilities at first-hand and be aware of possible needs and challenges of the Academy. The IGP further says that the facilities at the Academy are world class facilities that could train personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and even beyond, especially the world class assimilated indoor shooting range and the Post graduate hostel. The IGP thanked the Central Bank of Nigeria and TETFund for being partners in the progress of the Academy through their interventions which is obvious in the Academy. The IGP also promised a vehicle and escort utility vehicle for the Commandant and the Ag. Provost.
The Academy Commandant AIG Sadiq Idris Abubakar, PhD, mni, while thanking the IGP for his official visit to the Academy appreciated his time at the Academy to commission the projects. He further thanked the IGP for his support thus far, especially the recently donated bus, escort vehicles and an Armoured Personnel Carrier Vehicle – APCV for the Academy. He also thanked him for the welfare of cadets and staff but however, requested that more intervention is required in the area of personnel both officers and Academic Staff, capital projects like staff quarters, more lecture buildings, staff offices etc. the Commandant wished the IGP a safe return while he leaves the Academy.
Among those who accompanied the IGP were DIG Hafiz M. Inuwa,mni, AIG Ede Ayuba Ekpeji, psc(+), the CP of Kano Command CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel,FIPMA, psc, CP of Jigawa Command CP Emmanuel E. Effiom and the Force PPRO CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. Other staff members of the Academy present were the Deputy Commandant, Ag. Provost, the Ag. Registrar, the Bursar, the Ag Librarian, Deans and Directors.
